Khariz Hounds

Khariz had its beginnings in 1970 when our first Afghan, China, came to live with us. China gave us the show bug when she was Best of Breed at her first and only dog show. We soon realized, however, she wasn't the quality we had hoped for and we began the search for what was to be the beginning of breeding aspirations, and show ring disappointments and successes.

Sandcastle Salt Water Taffy eventually joined our family but she hated showing and we weren't experienced enough to get the best out of her. After seeing Ch, Mecca's Falstaff, we knew that he represented all we could possibly want in a sire and breeding him to Taffy produced our Ch. Kharizlu Rainmaker.

Salukis soon captured our interest as well and we were lucky enough to become the owners of a Cancer son, Damascus Wild Oat. Cancer was Mimi Carlylse's Ch. Canem Dei's El Salta Aun and seeing this wonderful dog move was something one didn't easily forget. Oat inherited this fantastic movement from his sire and this contributed to his success in the show ring. Oat became an American Champion and very nearly finished his Canadian title from the puppy class.

Unfortunately, life events prevented the continuation of Kharizlu (the "lu" is no longer part of Khariz) and the early 80's saw the end of our involvement with showing.

Dogs continued to be part of my life with a super Doberman, Thor, and a charming rescue Greyhound called Holly.

Moving halfway round the world to Norway in 2001 (where I had been born), I had the pleasure of running into Elsa Storesund of Elsto Kennels with her newly imported Australian Ch. Quom's Jambalaya N Jazz.

A new era has now begun for Khariz and I am looking forward to the future in both the show ring and the lure coursing field.
